与中国相关的IMC背景 为了使读者进一步了解我们关于IMC的观点及其与中国的关系,我们需要提供一些相关的背景材料。在20世纪80年代和90年代,我在亚洲呆了相当长的一段时间,主要是在中国香港、日本、中国台湾以及新加坡等地,在那里一些跨国公司已在环太平洋区域设立了总部。因此,我从中国的外部对于中国就有了很多的认识,但是确实不是从中国的内部来认知中国的。 自2000年初,我和海蒂开始了在中国大陆的定期旅行。我们已在大多数的中国主要城市举办了讲座、会议和培训班。我们开始在北京大学和清华大学等著名大学开设面向EMBA的营销传播课程。这使我们认识了一些营销领域里学术界和实务界的中国同行。至今,我们还是坚持每年花4~6个星期的时间来访问这些中国的学校并且讲授一些课程、举办一些培训以及开展研究工作,而且还为不断增加的各类中国企业举办一些研讨班或是会议。总的来说,我们对于中国已经有了一个从内到外的认识过程,而不仅仅是从外到内。 21世纪的企业营销与中国 在21世纪,无论是中国还是企业营销都在面临着独特的挑战。在西方,企业营销正在脱胎换骨。事实上,很多市场营销方面的权威人士,例如宝洁公司全球营销总监吉姆?史坦戈(JimStengle)等,均已经宣称“市场营销已经崩溃,需要重整旗鼓”。这种态势已经通过众多企业在北美和欧洲等发达市场的营销实践得以体现。已被采用的、传统的营销模型——例如大规模的、以消费者为导向的广告、优惠和折扣的方式,已经在以国际互联网和无线传输等互动信息传播为主导的时代中被淘汰。很明显,营销和营销传播正在面临变革,而这些变革已经在本书中得到体现。 目前,中国也正在面临着整体性的营销变革。虽然中国从计划经济中转轨仅仅只有20年左右的时间,但是这些全新的、以市场为导向的中国企业正在大规模地向全球扩张,它们不仅仅要满足不断发展的国内市场的需要,也在进一步进军国际市场。而企业营销在中国也许只有10年左右的历史,还有很多东西有待于中国企业尽快地去学习和拓展。因此,不论是中国企业还是西方的跨国公司,都在努力尝试着其营销传播活动的快速变革,也就是要在使雇主、经销商和雇员具备全新的、顾客导向的市场视野的同时,去应对不断变化的客户及其需求。 基于过去数年里在中国所做的工作,我们越来越清晰地认识到中国的企业需要在如下两个领域中进一步开展营销和营销传播活动: 1.了解当今的西方及其跨国公司的实践活动。对于西方企业尤其是跨国公司来说,中国是一个非常有吸引力的市场。中国拥有着大量的人口、迅速增加的可支配收入,以及对各种产品和服务的无止境的消费欲望。中国正式加入WTO组织、即将在北京举办的奥林匹克运动会等,向世人展示着中国全球化平台的生机和活力,也在预示着中国进一步快速变革的需求。西方的跨国公司在新兴经济和增长型经济方面拥有着丰富的经验,它们已具备了成熟的营销技能和方法论,而且这些方法论已经在各种市场得以验证和精炼,例如从巴西到独联体以及印度等。如今,跨国公司也在将这些营销技巧和方法论带到了中国。于是,中国的企业也就必须深入了解跨国公司的市场行为,以及它们为了赢得中国市场将如何开展营销传播活动等。为了能够保护自己的国内市场,中国企业必须学习和掌握最新的、最复杂的营销传播工具。显然,IMC就是当今营销传播方面可习得的、最领先的专业工具。因此,本书的研究将有助于中国企业管理者去理解西方的竞争者即跨国公司进入和拓展中国市场的方法。
