这种企图,说起来很容易,实际上做起来就困难多了,马克思主义的立场、观点和方法,是要在长期生活、工作和斗争中锻炼出来的。专靠读几本书是不能懂得的,更不用说掌握和应用了。解放以后,提倡向苏联学习。我也向苏联的“学术权威”学习,看他们是怎样研究西方哲学史的。学到的方法是,寻找一些马克思主义的词句,作为条条框框,生搬硬套。就这样对对付付,总算是写了一部分《中国哲学史新编》,出版到第二册,“文化大革命”就开始了,我的工作也停了。 到了70年代初期,我又开始工作。在这个时候,不学习苏联了。对于中国哲学史的有些问题,特别是人物评价问题,我就按照“评法批儒”的种种说法。我的工作又走入歧途。 经过这两次折腾,我得到了一些教训,增长了一些知识, 也可以说是在生活、工作、斗争中学了一点马克思主义的立场观点和方法。路是要自己走的;道理是要自己认识的。学术上的结论是要靠自己的研究得来的。一个学术工作者所写的应该就是他所想的,不是从什么地方抄来的,不是依傍什么样本摹画来的。在一个考试中间,一个学生可以照抄另外一个学生的卷子。从表面上看,两本卷子完全一样。可是稍有经验的老师,一眼就能看出来,哪一本卷子是自己写的,哪一本是抄别人的。 现在,我重理旧业,还想实现我原来的计划。对于中国哲学和中国文化,我还自以为有点理解,有点体会。值此旧邦新命之际,我应该把我的一点理解和体会写出来,以加入新长征的行列,跟上新长征的进程。我觉得我有这个责任。这也算是“老骥伏枥,志在千里”吧。
